ROOF PERMITS & INSPECTIONS

Need a roof permit? Start with the roof and the work.

A replacement roof can look like one job, but the permit, installation information, and inspection stages need to stay connected.

Describe the proposed work

Send the address, building use, roofing system, and whether the project is a repair, replacement, or change to the roof. Include the contractor and any documents already prepared. A roofing system described as shingle, metal, tile, or commercial membrane needs the supporting information for the actual proposed work; a generic product name is not a complete application.

Confirm the authority and application route

Check who issues permits for the property. The City of Orlando publishes a residential roofing application process requesting roof and material information. Commercial work or work in another jurisdiction may use a different process. Coordinate the current application with the responsible contractor rather than assuming the residential form fits every building.

Plan inspections before the relevant work is covered

Ask the issuing department and contractor which inspections and documents apply to the permit. Orlando’s current roof guide identifies an in-progress inspection stage and final-inspection documentation. Organizing these steps in advance can prevent a finished roof from arriving at final inspection with an unanswered question about covered work.

Keep the record with the project

Store the permit, installation documents, inspection results, and available progress photos together. Confirm which party submits documents and schedules inspections. If a product or scope changes, keep the project team informed so the information used for the permit reflects the proposed work.

What to send The Permit Expert

Send your property address, roof/work description, contractor details, available application or permit records, and target dates. We can propose document and permit coordination, inspection follow-up, or professional sourcing. Installation, technical specifications, engineering, and inspection reports are separately identified in the scope.
